How Does ClearCorrect Work?

Close up of a set of ClearCorrect aligners

Nearly every aspect of the ClearCorrect process has advantages over metal braces. After you and Dr. Cline have decided that ClearCorrect is right for you, we’ll take a digital scan of your teeth. Not only is this more comfortable than sticky traditional impressions taken with putty, but it also provides more detailed and precise results. This way, we can personalize every step of your journey towards a straighter smile.

Once we’ve created your custom treatment plan from the digital images, the data is sent to ClearCorrect. Using state-of-the-art technology, they’ll create a series of aligners that will move your teeth in stages. You’ll wear each set of aligners for several weeks, then move on to the next one when your teeth have adjusted. Gradually, your teeth will be gently shifted into place until you reach your beautifully straightened smile!

How Long Does the ClearCorrect Process Take?

Just as no two smiles are the same, no two ClearCorrect treatments are identical. Your treatment timeline will depend on factors like how much your teeth need to be moved and if you need any bite adjustments. For minor misalignments, ClearCorrect can be effective in as little as a few months! On the other hand, bad habits like poor compliance, lacking oral hygiene, and careless handling that leads to damaged aligners may make your treatment time much longer.

Teeth need to be moved slowly to avoid damaging them, which is why you’ll wear a single set of aligners for several weeks. To protect them from damage and keep them from interfering with your lifestyle, you can remove them when eating, playing sports, or practicing your brass or woodwind instrument. However, you’ll need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Otherwise, your teeth will begin to shift out of place and increase the length of your treatment.

Living with ClearCorrect Aligners

Adjusting to ClearCorrect is easier than you might think. Within days, wearing your aligners becomes second nature, and you’ll quickly settle into a routine that supports straighter teeth and a healthier smile. Small habits, like removing trays before meals, cleaning them daily, and keeping them in their case when not in use, make treatment smooth and stress-free. At Cline Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Cline and our team are here to guide you as you begin your orthodontic treatment. Read more below to see how easy living with ClearCorrect can be.

Wearing Your Trays

ClearCorrect aligners are designed for comfort and effectiveness, but success depends on consistency. You should wear your trays for 20 to 22 hours per day, only removing them to eat, drink, brush, or floss.

If you feel some pressure when you first start, or whenever you switch sets, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. This simply means your teeth are shifting as intended. Keeping aligners in place most of the time helps you stay on track and achieve the results you desire.

Cleaning Your Aligners

Daily cleaning keeps your ClearCorrect aligners invisible and odor-free. Rinse them whenever you remove them and gently brush with a soft toothbrush and mild soap (not toothpaste, which can scratch).

For a deeper cleanse, use products like aligner cleaning crystals or denture-safe soak recommended by our office. Just avoid hot water, as it can warp the trays, complicating your treatment. With just a few simple steps, you’ll keep your aligners clear, fresh, and comfortable throughout your treatment.

Eating & Drinking

One of the best things about ClearCorrect is the ability to eat your favorite foods without restrictions. Simply remove your aligners before meals and enjoy! The only things you should keep in mind are:

  • Only drink water with aligners in.
  • Colored or hot drinks can stain or warp trays.
  • Always brush your teeth and rinse aligners before reinserting them.

These habits not only protect your aligners but also reduce plaque buildup and cavities, keeping your smile healthy during treatment with our Idaho Falls dental office.

Losing or Damaging a Tray

Accidents happen—it’s a fact of life that we understand. Whether a tray gets misplaced, cracked, or warped, don’t panic. Just place the most recent set back on your teeth and give us a call for guidance. This is why we often recommend keeping your previous aligners until you’re finished with your current ones.

In some cases, Dr. Cline may recommend moving forward to the next set—in others, a replacement tray will need to be ordered. In either case, we’ll help make sure your treatment stays on track.

Routine Check-Ins

Regular appointments are an important part of living with ClearCorrect. During check-ins at our Idaho Falls office, Dr. Cline monitors your progress, ensures teeth are moving as planned, and provides your next sets of trays.

These visits are typically quick and comfortable, giving you the chance to ask questions and stay motivated. Staying committed to follow-up appointments helps guarantee your treatment remains efficient, predictable, and results in the confident, straight smile you deserve.

Understanding the Cost of ClearCorrect

As ClearCorrect technology and techniques have evolved over time, this orthodontic treatment has become less expensive than when it first hit the market. So, if you are interested in straightening your teeth, but you haven’t scheduled a consultation because you’re worried about the cost, there’s a good chance it’s not as expensive as you think! In short, if you’re ready to see if aligning your pearly whites with ClearCorrect is right for you, don’t hesitate to give us a call to schedule an appointment.

Factors That Affect the Cost of ClearCorrect

Because every individual treatment is different, we need to complete a comprehensive oral exam before we can give you a more accurate pricing estimate. That said, we can share a few of the factors that impact the cost here, including:

  • The complexity of your case
  • If single-arch treatment is possible
  • How many aligners need to be made
  • The type of retainer needed to preserve your results

When deciding whether or not to invest in ClearCorrect, it’s worth considering the long-term benefits of orthodontic treatment. Not only is a straightened smile less likely to develop tooth decay and gum disease, but it may end up saving you from unnecessary jaw discomfort, worn-down teeth, and expensive restorations further down the road!

ClearCorrect vs. Mail-In Aligners: Which Costs More?

Almost always, mail-order alternatives are cheaper. While this might initially draw you in, it’s important to look into how they can offer such a low upfront price. In the research process, you’ll quickly see that they skip crucial steps, including the initial consultation, and they rely on DIY impressions. Plus, there usually aren’t licensed dental professionals overseeing the teeth-straightening process, which is alarming for a myriad of reasons.

Does Dental Insurance Cover ClearCorrect

Not only do some dental insurance providers cover a portion of the cost of ClearCorrect, but we are in-network with most PPOs, including Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and MetLife. So, if you aren’t familiar with your benefits or you aren’t sure how to utilize them, don’t hesitate to let us know! We’d be happy to answer any questions you have, provide you with an estimate of your out-of-pocket expenses, and handle the paperwork for you so the entire process is as stress-free as possible.

ClearCorrect FAQs

Does Wearing ClearCorrect Hurt?

Any Clear Aligners treatment, from traditional braces to ClearCorrect, is going to come with some soreness. After all, your teeth are being moved to entirely new positions! The slight ache is a testament to the fact that your clear aligners in Idaho Falls are working. Don’t worry – they are much more comfortable than traditional metal brackets and wires. Plus, you can also use a cold compress or take an OTC pain reliever to help mitigate any discomfort that arises.

How Long Do I Need to Wear My Clear Aligners for Daily?

Since traditional braces aren’t removable, pressure is being applied to your teeth constantly. ClearCorrect, on the other hand, can be taken out at any time. While this offers perks, like a more seamless oral hygiene regimen, it also means patients have to be extremely diligent about wearing them consistently. To stay on track with your treatment plan, you’ll need to commit to wearing them for 22 hours a day. Setting aside 30 minutes for breakfast, 30 minutes for lunch, and 45 minutes for dinner will give you plenty of time to eat while also ensuring you have enough time to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth after each meal.

What Foods Can I Eat During ClearCorrect Treatment?

Since the clear aligners are completely removable, you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods throughout your treatment. With that said, there are a few best practices you should follow. To start, always remove your trays before eating to ensure they don’t break from the pressure of chewing. Second, stick to softer foods, like applesauce and yogurt, during the first few hours after switching to a new set of aligners since your mouth may be a bit sore. Lastly, keep sugary foods to a minimum since consuming them in excess can increase your chances of developing a cavity.

Will the Clear Aligners Change the Way I Talk?

Clear aligners are custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth. As a result, they aren’t bulky, awkward, or obtrusive. During the first few hours or days, you may experience a slight lisp from your tongue adjusting to the presence of your trays. However, it likely won’t be noticeable and many patients don’t experience any changes to their speaking patterns at all.
