The answer is no in the same sense that no dentistry is necessary. There are parts of dentistry that are extremely important, and x-rays are definitely one of them!

Dental X-rays are an integral part of any dental exam. X-rays give the dentist an idea of what is going on beneath the surface. Dental x-rays can show how teeth are developing and growing in, they can show decay and they can show other issues that are not visible to the naked eye.

Because our goal at Cline Family Dentistry is to be the best dentist Idaho Falls has to offer, we try to catch oral health concerns as early as possible, and this means performing regular x-rays with high quality equipment.

Types of Dental X-Rays

Different x-rays serve different purposes in discovering things that may be of concern in your mouth. When you visit the dentist you are likely to get bite wing x-rays, and if it has been a while since your last one, you are likely to get a panoramic x-ray.

Sometimes for more complex procedures, your dentist may also utilize additional imaging that allows them to see things in a way that they need to. These would be imaging services like cone beam imaging or other 3d imaging options.

Bite Wing X-Rays

Bite wing x-rays are the x-rays that are placed in-between your teeth and that you bite down on. Once the bite wing is in place, the person taking the x-ray will place the head of the x-ray unit on the outside of your cheek and take the image.

Panoramic X-Rays

The second type of x-ray you will likely experience is called a panoramic x-ray. This is the one that spins around your head and takes an x-ray of your entire mouth. These panoramic x-rays give great insight into what is going on in your mouth.

Will Dental Insurance Cover Dental X-rays?

Because dental x-rays are a necessary part of a dental exam, your dental insurance usually covers them at certain intervals. If you find a new dentist and you recently had x-rays done at another office, your insurance might not cover another set of x-rays. Your dentist can request those x-rays from the previous office so that you don’t have to pay for them.

Sometimes, if the x-rays are not high quality, the dentist will take new ones to make sure that he or she is able to clearly see what is going on in your mouth.

We offer digital x-rays to minimize your exposure to radiation, and to maximize our ability to see issues that might cause future problems. We can bring these x-rays up on the screen right in front of you so that you can see exactly what the dentist is talking about.

Request a New Patient Appointment Including Necessary X-Rays

At Cline Family Dentistry we work hard to make sure that you are aware of the things that are going on in your mouth. Digital x-rays and other intra-oral images are a few of the ways that we help you understand your dental health.

If you want to find out about our new patient specials that include dental cleanings and your necessary dental x-rays, call us today at (208)529-0420, or click the button below.

Sometimes our patients ask if dental x-rays are necessary.
